Twenty-five years ago...
Peter Wile and Elspeth McLean-Wile started the Market as an addition to their dairy farm. What started as an outlet for fruit grown on the farm has developed into a complete market experience with an in-store bakery, produce market, gift shop, and greenhouses producing annuals and perennials for the spring and early summer season.
Since the start of the Market in August 1983, the Wiles always focused on providing Nova Scotian grown produce. Much of the produce comes from farms in Lunenburg County including their own. The remaining farmer suppliers are in the Annapolis Valley. As Nova Scotia farmers, the Wiles believe strongly in supporting other farmers and helping shoppers easily find locally grown produce in season! See our list of Our Farmers for more information on where our products are grown.
At the Market you will find a full selection of produce as it becomes available in the early spring with the arrival of fresh asparagus, lettuce and rhubarb. During the summer and fall months our shelves are brimming with Nova Scotian grown fruits and vegetables.
Shoppers at the Market can enjoy fresh baking. The Bakery operates every day and continues our tradition of offering products made from scratch using traditional local recipes. Many folks love to get coffee made with freshly ground beans and pick up a fresh muffin, donut or cookie for a snack.
We have the largest selection of hard ice cream on the South Shore. We feature 26 flavours of Farmers ice cream served in cones and dishes.
Our gift area is designed to provide a great spot for you to find a gift for yourself or someone else. We try to find gift items that are in keeping with a garden theme and enhance your indoor and outdoor décor with garden related items. We have prints, windchimes, candles, tableware, garden flags, garden furniture, napkins and much more.
