THE LAST WORD
We will complete our 24th season on Sunday, November 8. It has been an action packed season with lots of people coming through the doors. Behind the scenes we were busy with our greenhouse project. At this time of year I heave a sigh of relief that we have survived another season. With all the talk of a depressed economy and financial meltdown we were a little nervous starting out. We are very thankful for the loyalty of our customers and very appreciative of the referrals we get from all of you.
I want to acknowledge our employees and the fine job they do. We have a creative, energetic, flexible and fun staff. Each morning we hold “the View at Wiles Lake Farm Market”, modeled after the highly successful ABC program with Barbara Walters, our morning discussion of hot topics is as lively and entertaining as the Hot Topic days on the television show. We cover serious topics as well as ridiculous conversations about everyday life! Our fifteen minutes together over breakfast and coffee sets the tone for the day. The Market only runs because everyone does their job well and works as a team. Thanks to all!
I do want to give special mention to Curene Uhlman for her 20 years of dedicated service. Over that time I have never seen her lose her temper, make a mistake or get rattled in any way. She is “cool as a cucumber” even on the busiest day. Each year she takes on more and more responsibility and does it capably and willingly. She is a dream employee – smart, efficient, with a strong focus on customer service. Her kind way endears her to our customers and other employees. Everyone loves working with her because she has such an easy kind way of doing things with others. We long ago, jokingly nicknamed her Dr. Curene because people confide in her so often. Thanks Curene for a job well done!
The winter will pass quickly for Peter and I as we get the greenhouses finished and things ready for our 25th year. We are ready for a little break however we will get rested and revived over the next few months. Again our sincere thanks to all of you.
Elspeth
OPENING DAY 2010
Next year we will open on Tuesday, March 31, 2010 and our new greenhouse complex will be open on Saturday, April 24.
DESSERT PARTY
The dessert party will start at 6PM on Friday November 6. We will serve our delicious brownies with ice cream and chocolate sauce, there will be carrot cake as well with whipped cream and lots of fresh coffee. Each person will draw for a shopping discount ranging from 10%-40% discount off items purchased (applies to non sale items, as there will be some products featured on sale that evening) Friday night.
CLOSING DAY
Closing will be at 6PM on Sunday, November 8.
CLOSING DONATIONS
We are often asked what we do with leftover produce and bakery items when we close on Sunday. We offer the food as a donation to the Inter-Church Food Bank and the Transition House for women in Bridgewater.
THANK YOU MARY

WINTER INSPIRATION
As our Market Newsletter goes to sleep for the winter months, our favourite outdoor gardening spaces do too. The mums have lost their bright colors, the bulbs have been planted, and finally, the leaves. There’s something therapeutic about raking all of those leaves. In the months ahead keep in mind there are many wonderful glimpses of Mother Nature in your favourite outdoor spaces. Along with the evergreens, some grasses and shrubs put on a different coat that can be just as dazzling as their vibrant summer blooms. The night sky in winter glitters with millions of stars, especially on clear, crisp nights. If you step outside in the silence after a fresh snow you can almost hear the sleigh bells of years gone by—a good time to enjoy one of my favourite poems “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. Remember, there is beauty in every season if we take the time to look and listen.
A special thank you to all our faithful readers of this newsletter—your enthusiasm and encouragement week after week make it a delight to share with you in this way.
Happy Winter Everyone Mary
