Market Musing

There is something therapeutic about gardening… the fresh air, the connection with the soil, new beginnings, the beauty and sense of satisfaction with growing the elements of a delicious meal or gorgeous landscape.

Customers who visit us in the greenhouse often comment on the calming impact wandering around amid the blooming flowers has on them.  All of us who work in the greenhouse space know and experience this on a daily basis.

If I have to work something out, reorganize my thinking, work through a problem, or escape to calm down, I head for the greenhouse where there is always something that can be done.

We all have our own take on what gardening adds to our life.  We have the privilege of enjoying the pleasure gardening brings to people everyday!

We will continue to hope the weather continues to warm up and we enjoy our fix of garden therapy!

Happy Gardening

Plant of The Week

'Mystic Spires' Salvia

You can enjoy the tall dark blue spires of this salvia all summer long.  Grow in full sun in the garden bed or in containers.  'Mystic Blue' makes a stunning planter centerpiece. This salvia can grow from 3- 5’ high and attracts butterflies. We grow two plants in a gallon pot for $9.95.

Planting Tomatoes

Fafard Vegetable and Garden Fertilizer

There are so many varieties of tomatoes to choose from.  We offer a variety pack of two cherry, two regular slicing tomato and two beefsteak.

Tomatoes should be watered in with granular fertilizer when planting.  Choose a product high in phosphorus to promote good root growth.  Plant tomatoes up to the crown covering 2/3 of the plant.  This helps establish a strong root system.

Interested in having fresh tomatoes and don’t have a garden.  We have a 'Patio Tomato' that has a strong stalk and is perfect for small spaces. Our 'Sweet and Neat' variety is also great for planters.

Small Fruit Garden

Having a permanent planting space in your garden is very rewarding.  Those early stalks of rhubarb and asparagus are such a treat.  Going out to the garden for a sweet handful of blueberries or raspberries you grew yourself.  If you are contemplating a permanent garden space we have asparagus roots and rhubarb potted up and strawberry plants and raspberry canes in the fridge for freshness.  Something new we have available this year.... Horseradish root.
